SOCIAL REINTEGRATION – Out-of-school youth learn a trade

Vocational training represents a path to integration for out-of-school youth welcomed at the Aïna Village in Antanandrano. Created in 2005, the association Aïna, Enfance & Avenir celebrated the twentieth anniversary of this structure last Saturday. Learning a trade is one of the methods implemented to prepare beneficiaries for active life.

Sewing and cooking are among the training courses offered. Sewing training lasts three to four months, according to information provided by Jocelyn Nasoloniaina, the center’s regional director. The cooking course lasts for one year. The programs follow the standards of the relevant ministry.

Some young people who have completed these courses now work in large companies, particularly in the hotel sector, the official noted. Access to employment is a concrete outcome for these beneficiaries, whose schooling paths were sometimes interrupted.

The acquisition of professional skills allows them to prepare for the demands of the working world. The center also offers training in agriculture, market gardening, livestock farming, and agroforestry.

These apprenticeships open up opportunities for activity in the agricultural sector. The support also concerns young mothers in precarious situations. A two-year program allows them to undergo technical training and prepare for income-generating activities, particularly in market gardening, livestock farming, or cooking.

Beyond learning a trade, access to healthcare is among the needs identified by the structure. The establishment of a mobile clinic is one of the projects envisioned to bring health services closer to vulnerable children and families.

Twenty years after its creation, the Aïna Village continues its activities for people in difficulty. For out-of-school youth, the question remains that of job opportunities after training and the possibility of having regular income. Professional integration also depends on hiring opportunities and the ability of beneficiaries to mobilize the skills acquired to build their future.
