With 12,602 students passing out of 26,300 registered candidates, the 2026 baccalaureate pass rate in the Mahajanga province stands at 47.92%, a decline of 11.85 percentage points compared to 2025.
Less than half of the candidates registered for the 2026 baccalaureate exam in Mahajanga province earned their diploma. Officials from the Baccalaureate Office, led by the President of the University of Mahajanga, Professor Blanchard Randrianambinina, announced the results yesterday afternoon at the university presidency headquarters, the Kakal building, in Mahajanga Be.
The results were released late in the afternoon, less than a month after the exam. The jury’s deliberation took place on Monday morning at the Philibert-Tsiranana High School in Mangarivotra. “A total of 12,602 candidates were declared successful out of 26,300 registered across both education streams in the Mahajanga province, representing a pass rate of 47.92%,” stated the university president.
This result marks a significant drop compared to 2025, when the pass rate reached 59.77% with 24,774 registered candidates, representing a decrease of 11.85 points. In 2024, the pass rate had exceeded 60%, reaching 61.81%.
In general education, 11,661 candidates passed out of 25,178 registered, a pass rate of 46.31%, compared to 58.44% in 2025. Technical education recorded a pass rate of 83.87%, with 941 successful candidates out of 1,122 registered. The highest score was achieved by a candidate in the D series, registered at the Mahajanga center and a student at the Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc High School in Mangarivotra, who obtained 16.94 out of 20.
The youngest successful candidate, aged 16, was registered at the Mandritsara center. The oldest, aged 66, also earned his diploma at the Mampikony center as an independent candidate.
Yesterday afternoon, the streets surrounding the university presidency headquarters in Mahajanga Be were crowded with thousands of candidates and curious onlookers waiting for the results to be posted. As with every baccalaureate result release, traffic was severely disrupted, and even paralyzed, in the area.
