New specialized insurance programs are set to be integrated into technical and vocational training institutions. A partnership agreement to this effect was signed on Monday between the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training (METFP) and the Professional Association of Insurance Companies in Madagascar (APEAM). The goal is to train a new generation of professionals while meeting the growing demand for qualified skills within insurance companies.
The agreement includes the adaptation of training programs to meet corporate needs, the development of professional internships, the facilitation of student job placement, the training of trainers, the recognition of certifications issued by APEAM, and the validation of prior experience for professionals in the sector.
According to Nanjatiana Razakamanana, Director General of APEAM, Madagascar currently lacks any institution specialized in insurance professions. While the association already provides training for its members, it now seeks official recognition for the certifications it issues.
This initiative comes at a time when the insurance culture remains underdeveloped in Madagascar. According to APEAM data, the insurance penetration rate stands at 0.55% of GDP, compared to 13% for the banking sector and 21% for microfinance. Both partners aim to strengthen available skills in the sector while contributing to better public awareness of insurance.
For Dr. Todisoa Andriamampandry, Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, this collaboration addresses the needs of the job market. He noted that insurance covers not only vehicles but also housing, health, life, professional activities, and mobility—areas where a better understanding of coverage mechanisms could strengthen the resilience of households and businesses.
