Reporting procedures for violence or disappearances have been streamlined. Citizens can now report cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and missing persons online, thanks to a digital platform accessible at any time.
The official launch of this new tool was announced this Monday in Anosy by the Minister of Public Security, Inspector General of Police Erick Michel, in the presence of his department’s officials. This initiative aims to simplify the process for victims, their relatives, and witnesses, while accelerating the handling of reports.
Accessible 24/7 from any internet-connected computer or smartphone, the portal https://www.vbg.pn.gov.mg allows users to report GBV cases, whether committed online or offline, as well as the disappearance of adults or children, without the need for prior registration.
The platform also offers the option to report anonymously, though users may choose to provide their identity. Users are asked to indicate their location and describe the facts. In the case of a disappearance, a detailed description of the missing person and a photograph can be attached to facilitate the search.
Once the form is validated, a case number is assigned to allow real-time tracking of the report’s progress. Upon receipt, “the report is handled by the administrators of the GBV portal from the Women’s Proximity Brigade (BFP),” explains an official from the Ministry of Public Security. They are responsible for examining and filtering the information received, transmitting it to the relevant service, and directing victims to the appropriate structure nearest to their jurisdiction.
