HERITAGE – Anatirova removes jacaranda trees from its grounds

The Rova continues its heritage restoration program with the removal of jacaranda trees, aiming to restore the site’s historical identity.

The Rova of Antananarivo is continuing its heritage restoration efforts. Following the restitution of the Majungasaurus dinosaur, a second milestone was reached on October 23 with the removal of the jacaranda trees planted within the Anatirova enclosure.

Originating from America, these trees, also known as “trees of misfortune,” were introduced to Madagascar during the colonial period. They were planted at the time to replace the native amontana and fig trees, thus becoming witnesses to this period of the country’s history.

Their removal is part of a process to restore the historical identity of the Rova. This initiative aims to promote Malagasy heritage and history by returning this iconic site to its original character.
