An encouraging start. The Malagasy representatives began the team events of the IBF (International Billiard Federation) World Championships on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa. The competition runs until Sunday, November 1st.
In the men’s category, Madagascar recorded two victories and one defeat. Daniela Andriamihaja’s team narrowly defeated Scotland (13-12), before falling to Northern Ireland (11-14). They then corrected their course by beating the Netherlands by a narrow margin (13-12).
The women’s team also won two of their three matches. The squad led by captain Ny Anjara Heritiana Ralaivao dominated Northern Ireland (15-10), then lost to the South Africans, who are playing on home soil (9-16). They subsequently clearly defeated the South African police team (20-5).
In the seniors’ category, Madagascar lost their first match against Mauritius (9-16), before overcoming the South African police team (14-11). The U23 selection, for its part, conceded three defeats: against South African teams A (5-20) and B (6-19), and then against Wales (7-18).
