Performance slump. The ‘Étoiles du Sud’ team, composed of two Malagasy stars Yves Sedrick Rakotoarisoa and Jean François Daniel Rakotondrainibe, alias ‘Zigle’, alongside Senegalese player N’Diaye Fara, suffered a 3-13 defeat in seven ends during the group stage against the host team led by Christian Fazino yesterday evening in Montluçon, on the first day of the third stage of the Masters de Pétanque.
The African selection trailed throughout the match, already down 0-7 by the 4th end. Zigle’s team, the reigning world champion in precision shooting, managed to narrow the gap to 3-7 by the 6th end. Playing more aggressively, Christian Fazino’s team opted for an all-out attack and concluded the match by scoring six points in the seventh end, securing the victory.
Following the second stage held in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, where the Étoiles du Sud were eliminated in the semi-finals, and their victory in the inaugural stage, Yves’s group held the provisional first place with 18 points, ahead of the Zigler team and Dylan Rocher’s team, both credited with 17 points. The second group stage match will take place this Thursday, followed by the semi-finals and the final.
