COOPERATION – China reaffirms its commitment to support the Refoundation process in Madagascar

China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Refoundation process initiated in Madagascar by deepening its cooperation with the Great Island. Chinese authorities expressed their desire to consolidate a strategic partnership based on the long-standing friendship between the two countries, during the celebration of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army’s Long March, held on Saturday in Nanisana.

In the presence of the Minister of Armed Forces, General Maminirina Ely Razafitombo, representatives of the PLA and the Chinese Embassy in Madagascar recalled that Sino-Malagasy relations are built on decades of cooperation and mutual trust. They highlighted recent achievements, including the visit of the 45th escort fleet of the Chinese Navy to Toamasina in April 2024, the port call of the hospital ship ‘Peace Ark’ in Antsiranana in August of the same year for a humanitarian medical mission, and the participation of a PLA detachment in the military parade organized for the 65th anniversary of Madagascar’s independence in June 2025.

Colonel Zhong Qiliang, Defense Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Madagascar, noted that hundreds of Malagasy military personnel have been trained in China over the years in command, military techniques, and logistics. According to him, this cooperation contributes to strengthening the capabilities of the Malagasy Armed Forces.

In his speech, the Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar, Ji Ping, reaffirmed Beijing’s willingness to pursue pragmatic cooperation with Madagascar, particularly in the fields of defense, security, and development, to contribute to regional peace and stability.

Chinese authorities also renewed their support for the Refoundation and development process undertaken by Madagascar. They assured that China is prepared to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with the Great Island, respecting their historical friendship and multilateralism for the benefit of both peoples.
