VIAVY FILM FESTIVAL – Call for entries for the third edition launched

The festival invites Malagasy female directors to submit their works for its third edition, which celebrates female cinematic creation.

Female directors have a new opportunity to showcase their work. For its third edition, the Viavy Film Festival has launched a call for films open to women of Malagasy nationality or origin. The submission deadline will be announced on the festival’s official Facebook page.

Participants may submit short fiction films, documentaries, or animated films with a duration between one and forty minutes. Works filmed in a language other than French must be subtitled in French.

Participation is free. To register, candidates must complete the form available on the festival’s official platforms and provide a high-resolution viewing link for their film. YouTube links are not accepted.

Created by filmmakers Koloina Andriamanantsoa and Ony Andriananantany, the Viavy Film Festival works to promote women in the film industry.

Presented as the first festival in Madagascar exclusively dedicated to female creators in the seventh art, it aims to highlight their works and artistic expression. Several awards will be presented to the selected films.

The ‘Golden Braid’ (La Tresse d’or) is among the event’s main distinctions. During the first edition in 2024, it was awarded to Nya Rafali for her short film ‘Why Are We Awake?’. In 2025, it went to Kuro Hime for ‘Le Bus’.

With this new call for films, the festival continues its commitment to the visibility of Malagasy female directors and the diversity of cinematic creation.
