FOOTBALL – Administrative procedures delay payment of Corentin Martins’ salary

The Ministry of Youth and Sports responded yesterday in Ambohijatovo to a publication by Fernand Cello denouncing the unpaid salaries of coach Corentin Martins. Two officials from the Ministry, Secretary General Gaspard Brice Hariliva and Director General Harinirina Brice, provided clarifications regarding the allegations made by journalist and whistleblower Fernand Cello, who claimed that the coach had not been paid for eight months and that the Barea team faced significant travel expense arrears.

Fernand Cello, who accompanied the Barea delegation, cited a figure of over 4 billion ariary in outstanding costs. In response, the Ministry officials stated that the information was incomplete and explained that the delay was due to the complex administrative process required for the tripartite contract, which took over two months to finalize and required a special decree to release the substantial funds.

While the Ministry did not disclose the exact amount of the arrears, citing the confidential nature of the contract, they confirmed that the payment process is underway. The arrears cover various expenses, including friendly matches in Turkey and Morocco, salaries for the coach and his staff, as well as performance bonuses. The Ministry officials expressed dissatisfaction with the publication and hinted at the possibility of legal action.
