FACING INSECURITY – The FFKM warns against mob justice

A call for calm. This is what the Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar (FFKM) issued yesterday during a service organized on the forecourt of the City Hall in Analakely.

The call for calm was made by Archbishop Samoela Jaona Ranarivelo, President of the FFKM, in a short message addressed to the entire nation at the conclusion of the ecumenical service. He accompanied his message with a solemn request for everyone to refrain from personal vengeance, denunciation, and to resist the temptation to exploit the current situation.

Respect for life, as well as the calming of spirits and tempers, were at the heart of the prayers and speeches delivered by the leaders of the churches belonging to the FFKM, who led yesterday’s ecumenical service. One of the consequences of the climate of psychosis generated by the recent cases of disappearances is the resurgence of mob justice, often based on mere rumors or denunciations.
