JUDO – AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – Wilan Saïd clinches bronze

A podium finish. Hasimbola Wilan Saïd, a judoka from the AS Saint-Michel club, saved the country’s honor at the African Cadet Judo Cup held yesterday at the Mohamed V Gymnasium in Casablanca, Morocco. Competing in the -81 kg category, he secured the bronze medal by defeating Moroccan Rayan Nejjary with an ippon during the second repechage match, which served as the bronze medal final, after previously eliminating Chadian Bemkel Djimeton with an ippon.

Exempted from the first round, Wilan was initially defeated by ippon in the second round by Algerian Anis Khodja, the eventual champion of the category. Two other Malagasy fighters were eliminated in the first round (the round of 16): Hajaina Randrianaivo in the -55 kg category and Kenzo Andrianiaina in the -73 kg category. Four other judokas will compete this Saturday in the African Junior Championships: Kevin Emilson Ralevazaha (-60 kg) and Rickey Jayson Saïd (-90 kg) for the boys, and Aina Mevasoa Rakotonandrasana (-57 kg) and Alice Randrianjohany (-78 kg) for the girls.
