MURDER OF STÉPHANIE AND HAINGOTIANA – Investigators question relatives of the victims

Four individuals have been arrested and placed in police custody as part of the investigation into the murder of two young women from Manjakaray, Stéphanie and Haingotiana.

The investigation into the deaths of Stéphanie Nohasoavina and Haingotiana Rasamison, whose bodies were found last Sunday in Ambohimanga Rova, is progressing according to authorities. Three suspects are being held at the Anosy Criminal Brigade, and another at the Ankadilalana gendarmerie. All of them know each other, and some had friendly ties with the victims.

Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina, Public Prosecutor at the Antananarivo Court of First Instance, confirmed the arrests without providing further details. A senior police commissioner confirmed that investigations are moving forward and a press briefing is expected to be organized soon. According to unofficial information, an initial arrest took place as early as Sunday evening, shortly after the bodies were discovered, thanks to technological evidence.

Geolocation data allowed Stéphanie’s family to determine that her phone stopped transmitting in Ambohimanga Rova before being taken by the killers along with her friend’s phone. Their bags and shoes were also missing.

The two victims were buried yesterday: Stéphanie in Ambohitrolomahitsy, in the Manjakandriana district, and Haingotiana in Ambohidrabiby. The two women, who were neighbors in Manjakaray, had left home on Friday, August 21, to go to the cinema in Ambodivona. Their bodies were discovered on Sunday, August 23, in a ravine in Andranomatsatso, bearing multiple stab wounds to the head and neck. One of the victims had also been subjected to sexual violence.
