Sixteen innovative projects were honored during the National Innovation Competition, with the ambition of promoting local talent and fostering their integration into the industrial sector.
Madagascan innovation is gradually paving its way toward industrial development. Sixteen projects were officially recognized as part of the National Innovation Competition, organized around research and new solutions capable of contributing to the development of Madagascar. The trophy presentation ceremony was held this Wednesday in the presence of various stakeholders who participated in the initiative.
In total, thirty-five project leaders presented their ideas during this competition. Among them, sixteen projects were selected for their relevance and potential. Three themes were prioritized: energy, local processing, and agro-industry. According to the Malagasy Industrial Property Office (Omapi), this choice responds to needs identified within the population and the challenges the country faces.
“The goal is to see what solutions Malagasy researchers and innovators can bring to move the country forward,” explains Naharisoa Oby Rafanotsimiva, Director General of Omapi. The initiative aims to highlight local talent, whether they are experienced researchers, professionals, or newcomers to the field of innovation.
Female participation is also a striking element of this edition. Women represent 60% of the program’s beneficiaries and are also leading projects aimed at addressing various issues. This significant presence testifies to the growing role of women in the research and innovation ecosystem in Madagascar.
The selection of the sixteen projects was not carried out directly by Omapi. The organization worked with several partners mobilized for the competition. These partners proposed the jury members responsible for evaluating the various projects. Each juror assigned scores based on the established criteria. Omapi then compiled the evaluations to establish the final selection.
Beyond the trophy presentation, the competition primarily aims to create bridges between project leaders and the private sector. The sixteen selected projects are expected to benefit from the support of partners from the industrial and commercial sectors. The challenge is to bring innovative ideas closer to actors capable of transforming them into concrete and economically viable solutions.
In this process, Omapi intervenes particularly in the protection of research results. The Office assists innovators with procedures related to industrial property, especially those necessary for obtaining a patent.
