Madagascan journalism has lost one of its passionate writers. Journalist Sitraka Rakotobe passed away yesterday following a sudden illness that occurred in the morning while he was at a construction site. Despite rescue attempts, he could not be saved.
Since 2016, Sitraka Rakotobe had established himself in the Malagasy media landscape through his rigor and sharp perspective on current events, particularly in the cultural sector. He began his career at L’Hebdo de Madagascar before joining L’Express de Madagascar as a cultural journalist. Throughout his career, he also worked at Ao Raha, Madagascar Matin, and later at La Vérité and La Vérité Hebdo, where he had been working for the past five years.
Recognized for his professional standards and commitment to quality writing, he paid special attention to every one of his articles. An avid reader of French magazines, he had developed a particular sensitivity to cultural news and defended his work with conviction. His recent reports include “Ludo Game: A popular pastime turned lucrative,” published on April 3, and “Pregnancy and newborn photography: Much more than a trend,” published this Friday, August 7.
His passing leaves a great void for his loved ones and colleagues. He leaves behind a daughter and a pregnant wife. His remains are currently at the Tsara Levenana funeral home in Ambohibao.
