According to the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, essential equipment for the operation of the Mandroseza water treatment plant has been stolen. Part of the stolen material has been recovered, and several suspects have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved, while the main pump remains missing.
The theft was discovered at the Mandroseza station on August 20, according to authorities. The stolen items include a pump used to supply the grouping station, electrical cables, valve box covers, and several pipes. The value of the stolen equipment has not yet been specified.
Initial investigations were supported by surveillance camera footage. Although the camera in one of the two hangars on the site was removed, a camera in the other hangar remained functional, capturing the suspects as they left the scene in a truck.
The vehicle left the site around 2:00 AM, and its route was tracked via GPS, stated Tovo Rakotoarisoa, Director of Control and Acceleration at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. “We traced the truck’s route and were able to determine the locations it visited,” he explained.
This lead helped recover some of the smaller equipment, including pipes, from scrap metal dealers. “The investigation is still ongoing. Some individuals have already been arrested, but others are still being sought,” the official added.
However, the main pump, considered essential for the station’s operation, has not yet been found. Investigations continue to recover the missing equipment and identify all those potentially involved. The Ministry urges the public not to buy, receive, store, or resell goods that may have originated from this theft, reminding citizens that purchasing, holding, or reselling stolen goods is subject to legal prosecution.
