Fête de la Musique at IFM: Oza Jérôme, Proshely, and the Weaver Trio Captivate the Audience

The encounter between ‘kaiamba’ and jazz brought together multiple generations yesterday at the Institut français de Madagascar (IFM).

Kaiamba and jazz resonated at IFM Analakely on Sunday during the Grand Concert for the Fête de la Musique. In a packed hall, Oza Jérôme, Proshely, and the Weaver Trio presented an original creation, blending Malagasy musical heritage with contemporary exploration. The audience, composed of youth, families, and fans of both traditional and modern music, responded with enthusiasm.

From the very first notes, the chemistry between the artists was evident. One of the evening’s highlights was the collective interpretation of iconic tracks such as ‘Volazara’ and ‘Fotsy hely.’ Supported by arrangements combining piano, guitar, and drums, these performances drew strong approval from the audience, who particularly enjoyed the collaborative segments.

The concert also highlighted Madagascar’s musical diversity. Several works from different regions were revisited on stage, confirming the richness of the country’s sonic heritage. Performances alternated between solos, duos, and collective pieces, offering a rhythmic flow accessible to all.

On stage, Oza Jérôme, a major figure in the kaiamba genre and author of several popular hits, made a lasting impression with his presence and delivery. Alongside him, Proshely, recognized as the “magician of kaiamba,” brought his extensive experience and artistic mastery honed since a young age. The Weaver Trio, a jazz ensemble formed in 2018, infused a contemporary dimension through modern influences and inspired improvisations.

The collaborative segments between the three artists particularly captured attention, especially when the group fused styles to create a unique musical dialogue between tradition and modernity.

Beyond the performance, this encounter illustrated the IFM’s commitment to promoting dialogue between generations and musical genres. It was an evening that confirmed that Malagasy music continues to evolve, opening up to new forms of expression while remaining faithful to its roots.
