A three-month immersion. This is what about a hundred journalists from as many countries will experience. This immersion is part of an exchange program organized by the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), in collaboration with the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA). Two of the participants come from the Indian Ocean region, including one from Madagascar.
This is the second edition of this exchange program aimed at journalists from ‘Global South’ countries, as indicated by Yu Lei, Director of the CIPCC. The goal is to allow them to discover China firsthand, to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and society, its institutions and public entities, to better understand the country’s transformation process. The idea is also to enable participating journalists to understand how the Chinese media system functions.
The program includes academic courses at the Renmin University of China in Beijing, conferences, meetings and exchange sessions with Chinese officials, and field trips. The program, as Yu Lei emphasizes, also aims to strengthen exchanges between Chinese media and those of the ‘Global South’. The CIPCC serves precisely as a platform for cooperation between press professionals, as its director explains.
For the participants, beyond the training, the program also serves as a space for professional dialogue. It is an opportunity to build an international network and develop contacts for sustainable exchanges.
