A breath of fresh air for motorists in the capital. Traffic officially resumed on October 13 in front of the La Croix du Sud pharmacy in Antanimena, following a temporary closure for the installation of new drainage canals.
This heavily used thoroughfare, which handles a significant portion of the capital’s daily traffic, had to be partially closed to allow for the deployment of heavy machinery and road excavation.
These interventions are part of the Antananarivo Integrated Sanitation Program – Phase 2 (PIAA2). This major project aims to modernize the capital’s underground infrastructure to address recurring flooding.
By improving the flow of runoff water, authorities hope to limit the dramatic flooding that regularly paralyzes the Antanimena area during heavy thunderstorms.
While the road has been returned to users at the pharmacy landmark, development work is not yet complete. The construction site has moved a few meters further, just in front of the VIMA building, where technical teams are continuing to connect the networks.
Authorities and project managers are urging drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant. The presence of workers in the immediate vicinity of the road and occasional lane narrowing require strict adherence to temporary signage and speed limits to ensure everyone’s safety until the final completion of the work.
