The construction of the future expressway connecting Antananarivo to the port of Toamasina continues to progress. Asphalt paving operations are moving slowly, with 29.3 km already paved out of the first 80 km of the road, representing an execution rate of 36.63%. “The shortage of bitumen linked to the conflict in Iran is the cause of the delay in the asphalt work. The product is now available,” a source explained yesterday.
On this same section, earthworks are nearing completion, with barely 20 km remaining. According to the latest technical assessment of the project, earthworks show an advancement rate of 75.75%, covering more than 60 kilometers. This progress allows for the start of the road structuring. The foundation layer already extends over 45 km (56.34%), while the base layer is completed over 33 km (41.31%).
42 out of 43 culverts have already been installed over the first 58 kilometers, representing 63% progress. In addition, 25 out of 28 box culverts are finished over the first 43 kilometers (73.53%). Two of the three bridges planned for this phase are currently under construction.
The company in charge of the work estimates that it will be able to reach the 80 km target by the end of the year. The route planned after kilometer 80 is likely to change. The project will thus continue with the study of a new layout for this second section.
