Some ‘last times’ are only recognized in hindsight. A final walk, a last summer, a final shared moment: with ‘Veloma Lava’, artist Miarina transforms these ordinary moments into artistic material, inviting everyone to reflect on the memories that remain. The exhibition, which opened today, August 20, will run until September 11 at the Is’Art Galerie, located at Tiers Lieu Mahatazana.
Through her works, the artist explores those moments that, sometimes without warning, become the last. She delves into presence, absence, places, and periods of life that memory preserves with a bittersweet nostalgia. However, the exhibition does not seek to trap the visitor in regret, but rather to create a space for reflection on what memories leave behind.
The exhibition is structured into four series: ‘Plongée’ (Diving), ‘Apocalypse’, ‘Rituels’ (Rituals), and ‘Nocturne’. ‘Plongée’ opens the exhibition with compositions inspired by water and water lilies, where shades of green create a soothing atmosphere, evoking the first immersion into memory.
Originally from Antananarivo, Miarina develops a style of painting centered on the paradoxes of existence. She works with color, shadow, and gesture in an approach that is both introspective and focused on collective questioning. Her narrative, intimate, and figurative style turns each canvas into a space where personal experience and reflection on identity collide.
‘Veloma Lava’ will also be accompanied by a conference and a painting workshop, extending the artist’s reflection on memory and its artistic expression.
