AT THE UN TRIBUNE – President Michaël Randrianirina reaffirms the Refoundation authorities’ commitment to holding elections before the end of 2027

A confirmation. The President of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, took advantage of his platform at the United Nations (UN) this Thursday to reaffirm his commitments. The Malagasy Head of State announced that Madagascar’s objective is “to succeed in holding free, transparent, and universally accepted elections before the end of 2027.”

This announcement, made during his first address to the member states of the international organization, confirms the Refoundation roadmap presented to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in May. The Iavoloha resident notably recalled that the Great Island has “established a clear calendar” for the Refoundation process.

In Durban, during the SADC summit last month, the President of the Refoundation had already mentioned, during a meeting with his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, the possibility for Madagascar to organize a first ballot starting in July 2027. The indications given at the time mainly referred to a vote on the future constitutional framework. However, the Head of State later clarified that no precise date had yet been set.

Speaking in Malagasy before the UN General Assembly, the President of the Refoundation defended “the refoundation process initiated following the mobilization of Malagasy youth just a year ago.” He spoke of a “fertile ground for responsible governance supported by solid institutions, devoted to the general interest, and having restored citizens’ trust in the State.”
