Tragedy struck on July 20th at Kimony Beach, located in the rural commune of Bemanonga, Morondava district, where two brothers from Antananarivo drowned.
Gendarmes were alerted around 3:51 PM and arrived at the scene. According to initial investigations, the family had come to spend the afternoon by the sea. The two young men, aged 32 and 20, were playing in an area known to be shallow, but they were swept away by the waves.
A passerby riding a quad bike noticed them first and attempted to rescue them. He rushed them to a medical center. Despite the efforts made, the victims could not be resuscitated, according to a report filed by the gendarmerie.
The tragedy caused deep distress among relatives and witnesses. In the evening, local authorities, led by the prefect and the regional head, met with the family to offer their support, in accordance with Malagasy traditions.
This accident serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution at sea and following safety instructions to prevent such tragedies.
