The President of the Refondation movement has pledged to convey the proposals made by young people during the national consultation. The youth are demanding an active role in decisions concerning the country’s future.
“I have received your ideas and will transmit them to the FFKM, the Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar. Rest assured that I will closely follow the proposals you have formulated,” declared Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refondation, on Saturday during the closing of the National Youth Consultation at the Ivato International Conference Center (CCI).
After three days of discussions, this national meeting marked the culmination of a process launched in April at the municipal, district, and regional levels. For nearly four months, youth representatives debated five key areas: politics and governance, economy, social affairs, culture and sports, and the environment.
In an atmosphere of mutual respect, the youth presented their findings, expressing a desire to participate actively in the country’s future. “These are demands we have formulated, not requests,” emphasized a representative from the Analamanga region. “We have been heard, our ideas have been taken into account, and we will defend the positions we have adopted.”
Placing youth at the heart of national transformation, Colonel Randrianirina stated, “There can be no true refoundation without the youth,” calling for a political dialogue where young people can contribute to reforms while respecting diverse opinions.
Among the topics, “Politics and governance” sparked the most intense exchanges, particularly regarding state reform and the choice between a unitary state and a federal republic. Participants noted that these divergences reflected the richness of the dialogue.
Addressing viral videos of heated debates, a representative from the Atsimo-Andrefana region clarified: “Those who did not attend the sessions cannot understand the full context. There was no conflict; it was simply ideas clashing.”
Alain Rasambany, Minister of Youth and Sports, echoed this sentiment, stating that the confrontation of opinions is an essential component of democratic debate and a strength for the nation.
