An investigation was opened about a week ago regarding the death of two people, a mother and her child, who were found shot to death at their home in Antanikatsaka, Bemasoandro Itaosy, last Saturday morning. These are still only assumptions, as the results of the investigation into the exact circumstances of their deaths are still pending. It is estimated that several gunshots were the cause of their deaths. According to testimonies, the detonations did not particularly resonate in the vicinity at that time.
“The investigation is ongoing regarding this regrettable event. We are waiting for new elements, the outcome will be known soon, and we trust the expertise of the investigators regarding the facts observed on site as well as all verifications,” declared Ranitratsilo Jimmy, Mayor of the Bemasoandro Itaosy commune.
It was in a fenced and guarded house, about two hundred meters from the Bemasoandro municipal office, that this shocking event occurred. Both the gendarmerie and the police went to the scene to carry out observations. Representatives of the commune also arrived at the site.
“Usually, here in the commune, cases of zebu theft are the most frequent, but this time, it is a distressing event, as the commune has lost two lives, a mother and her child. We based our findings on what we observed and local testimonies. While having his car repaired, the driver called his employer on Saturday morning, but she did not answer. He then called her son, who was elsewhere and had another set of keys. When the house was opened, the bodies of the mother and child were discovered, both shot to death. No house had been forced, no property was in disarray, and nothing was missing. A handwritten document found at the scene was handed over to the investigators. The first hypothesis is that of a voluntary homicide followed by a suicide. The second hypothesis, which we are not ruling out either, is that of a premeditated murder or one committed by an outside person. We leave this in the hands of the investigators,” stated Ranitratsilo Jimmy.
