THEATER – Tropy Ilo performs to a sold-out crowd with ‘Voamaintilany’

The public turned out in large numbers on Sunday at Ivokolo Analakely to discover ‘Voamaintilany’, a performance by Tropy Ilo for which tickets were completely sold out.

Several Malagasy songs accompanied the performance, notably ‘Voamaintilany’, ‘Misiatsiahy’, ‘Indrisy ry foko’, and ‘Ny hatanorana dia raozy maraina’, written by Victor Raharijhon and Christian Ramananrivo, known as Kiki. The staging was directed by Haja Ravaloson, while production management was entrusted to Rajherimanana Ravo.

The plot tells the story of three friends whose relationships shift after a betrayal, embezzlement, and maneuvers directed against one of them. Years later, the victim returns with a desire for revenge. Meanwhile, their children, unaware of the past conflicts, fall in love. The play thus highlights the consequences that past wounds can have on subsequent generations.

The actors also worked on their integration into the stage universe. The costumes contributed to building the atmosphere, featuring traditional outfits such as the malabary, as well as more modern clothing and various other costumes. The set design, costumes, and acting formed a coherent whole throughout the different scenes.

Founded 18 years ago, Tropy Ilo officially joined the FMTM in 2007. The troupe works to promote Malagasy theater and culture through creations blending political satire, humor, and social drama. Its members include Nel Andriamihaja, its 91-year-old dean, and it is presided over by Noelitiana Randritsi-tohaina.

‘Voamaintilany’ required nearly a year of preparation, including work on dialogue, movement, songs, and technical aspects. Satisfied, the audience welcomed the performance and is now looking forward to new offerings from Tropy Ilo.
