MORAMANGA – Ambatovy supports development projects

In April 2026, the urban commune of Moramanga received 455.14 million ariary in mining royalties paid by Ambatovy. These funds are intended to finance infrastructure to improve municipal services and the living conditions of residents. The expansion of the municipal office, the rehabilitation of the bus station, and the repair of several roads are among the priorities of Mayor Sylvain Rodolphe Ralaiarimalala.

The lifting by the State of the suspension on the payment of Ambatovy’s mining royalties, which had been in effect since 2022, has allowed for the resumption of payments. For the period from September 2020 to December 2025, the company paid 98.26 billion ariary in royalties, distributed among the six beneficiary communes of the district. According to regulations, 30% of these funds are allocated to operations and 70% to financing development projects that meet the population’s needs.

In Moramanga, the expansion of the municipal office is the top priority. The current premises no longer meet the needs of municipal services, which employ more than 90 permanent staff, in addition to temporary employees. The lack of space and equipment complicates the processing of user requests.

“The expansion of the municipal office is a priority because it will allow us to better serve the population with complete transparency,” the mayor explained. Improving the premises should also facilitate administrative procedures and help reduce the risks of petty corruption.

The commune also plans to rehabilitate the bus station and several roads in two fokontany. These works aim to facilitate travel and access to services while supporting local economic activities.

The collaboration between Moramanga and Ambatovy also includes social actions in a city where many of the mining company’s employees reside. Quarterly meetings bringing together the concerned communes allow for the definition of needs and priority projects.

The commune’s procurement plan has already been approved and is expected to be published soon. The start of the work is planned within one to two months. Furthermore, training for mayors and their staff on the management of public funds began on October 21 in Ambohibary. It aims to promote transparent management of resources and sustainable investments that create jobs and directly benefit the inhabitants.
