Madagascar’s second match in this U18 Afrobasket in Abidjan was far from easy. Facing a solid Moroccan team, the young Ankoay had to dig deep to overcome a difficult start, showing great character in the final quarter to seal a 59-48 victory (14-14, 11-8, 13-12, 21-14). The North Africans started strong, leading 6-0 early on, but Madagascar gradually fought back to level the score.
The game remained tightly contested throughout the first half. Despite some offensive struggles and turnovers, Madagascar held a narrow 25-22 lead at halftime. The second half saw Morocco briefly regain the lead, but the Ankoay refused to yield, finishing the third quarter ahead 38-34.
In the final ten minutes, Madagascar pulled away thanks to aggressive defense and better ball management. Despite missing a few free throws, they maintained their composure to win 59-48. Harinosy A’Ranty led the scoring for Madagascar with 13 points and a double-double, supported by Thesbon M. Raolompanantena (12 points) and Tsiory Ulrick Rakotozafy (10 points). With this second consecutive win, the Ankoay have officially qualified for the quarterfinals and will face Mali on Sunday with less pressure.
