Malagasy rock and rap meet in a narrative that is both dark and hopeful. Valahara and Kintaniavo will soon unveil “Nivarilavo,” a musical collaboration accompanied by a new music video, officially scheduled for release on Friday, September 18. Through this feature, the two artists explore the consequences of a breakup and the various stages that can follow a period of great distress.
“Nivarilavo” traces a person’s descent into hell after a romantic breakup. Depression, loneliness, alcohol, and suicidal thoughts define this particularly difficult period. However, the narrative evolves toward a different perspective. After navigating this dark phase, the individual gradually regains hope, the strength to live, and happiness. The track thus carries a message of resilience: no matter how painful, suffering is not the end. It is always possible to get back up, regain a taste for life, and glimpse better days.
For Valahara, this new project marks a new milestone for a group considered promising within the new generation of Malagasy rock. After performing their first album live at a promotional concert at Ivokolo Analakely on August 1, 2026, the group continues its journey with ambition, seeking to bring its music to new audiences.
The group consists of Garry (drums and backing vocals), Ranja (keyboards and backing vocals), Sitraka (lead vocals and flute), Yrah (bass and backing vocals), and Jaykee (guttural guitarist). This lineup gives Valahara a collective identity built around various instruments and voices, finding a new field of expression here through the encounter with rap.
Meanwhile, Kintaniavo is establishing herself as a leading figure in female hip-hop in Madagascar. Originally from Antananarivo, she uses rap as a means of expression and a vector for social change. Her direct and conscious writing addresses the status of women and social injustices, with a desire to carry texts that challenge.
At 23, Kintaniavo is making her mark on the rap scene. A finalist in a televised competition and a member of the Indepen’zah collective, she is gradually building her career in a fast-paced environment, focusing above all on hard work and impactful lyrics. Her musical identity is distinguished by a sincere rap that blends Malagasy and French, accompanied by a charismatic stage presence.
With “Nivarilavo,” the two worlds complement each other. Valahara’s rock meets Kintaniavo’s rap writing to tell a painful experience without trapping the narrative in suffering. On the contrary, the collaboration follows a path toward reconstruction, reminding us that after a period of distress, hope and the desire to live can gradually be reborn.
