Traffic is gradually returning to normal in the Mahamasina area. Following a two-month closure, the Anosy-Mahamasina roundabout has been reopened to traffic since Tuesday. However, the street connecting the 5th Arrondissement Police Station to the Barea Stadium remains closed due to ongoing construction work.
With the reopening of the roundabout, the street section in front of Koots Food has reverted to a one-way street and is no longer accessible to vehicles coming from Anosy heading toward Antanimbarinandriana. Meanwhile, traffic for vehicles and ‘taxi-be’ (public transport minibuses) from Anosy toward the Ambohidahy tunnel has resumed normally.
Conversely, due to the closure of the street in front of the police station, vehicles coming from Analakely heading toward Ankadilalana must drive along Lake Anosy, turn at the Senate roundabout, and pass through Cité Jardin street to reach the road leading to the Mahamasina market. To avoid congestion on this route, the ‘taxi-be’ stop has been relocated in front of the Ny Maraina restaurant.
Once the work at Anosy is completed, the construction site will move to the Sainte Famille Institution area, which will require further traffic adjustments. However, Tojo Andry Rafidimanantsoa, Director General of Sanitation and Hygiene at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, reassures that the work planned in front of Sainte-Famille should not take long.
For the ministry, the principle is to carry out the work in sections to avoid a total closure of traffic and to limit disruptions for users. While acknowledging the cooperation and understanding of the residents of Antananarivo, he reiterates that the current works will provide long-term benefits.
Tojo Andry Rafidimanantsoa also confirms that the schedule for completing the work is currently being met. Nevertheless, he highlights challenges encountered on the ground, particularly the discovery of water pipes or other underground networks beneath the road, which sometimes require additional, unplanned interventions.
