The body of a 44-year-old man, already in a state of decomposition, was discovered hanging from a tree in a field in Ambatofotsy, Maevatanàna, the day before yesterday. He had reportedly been there for several days before being found.
A passerby, alerted by a strong odor, inspected the area and made the discovery in an agricultural plot near the Ikopa River, in the upper part of the city. Witnesses consider the circumstances suspicious and believe the man may have been killed before being tied to the tree. His death likely occurred two or three days ago, which would explain the state of the body.
A bag containing clothes and the man’s national identity card was hanging from the tree. This document indicates that he was originally from Ankazobe and should help locate his relatives, whose identities are not yet known.
Local authorities, law enforcement, and a doctor arrived at the scene for an investigation. Local officials and the fokonolona (community) then organized the burial. The body is currently resting south of the Mandanikapa field enclosure, pending identification and the arrival of the family.
