A suspected bandit, who was guiding police in search of his accomplices, was killed by gunfire from one of them in Manarintsoa Isotry. The shooter managed to escape.
Bursts of gunfire startled and frightened residents of Manarintsoa Isotry and surrounding areas, as far as Andavamamba, the night before last, starting at 10 p.m. Residents were left wondering about the source, with some fearing a bandit attack. However, it was an exchange of fire between the police and suspected criminals. One man was killed by a bullet. Identified as a suspected bandit, he had been taken to guide police in their search for his accomplices. According to the National Police, he was ultimately struck by shots fired by one of them. The shooter managed to flee into the darkness.
This operation in Manarintsoa Isotry follows investigations into a deadly attack on a merchant in Anosibe. The case is far from closed. Several weeks have passed since the armed robbery at the Anosibe market, which claimed the life of a young entrepreneur. The Criminal Brigade, Fourth Section (BC4), based in Anosy, has been leading the investigation to track down those responsible.
“The search continued, and a suspected bandit, considered one of the arms suppliers, was arrested in Antananarivo. A homemade weapon and a cartridge were seized from him. He identified other accomplices, one of whom was reportedly in possession of the Makarov pistol used during the Anosibe attack,” the National Police stated.
The investigation revealed that the suspect holding the Makarov pistol frequently changed locations. On the night of the incident, police from the BC4 and the Anti-Gang Service (SAG) were patrolling the area, accompanied by the previously arrested man who was guiding them. When the suspect appeared, he opened fire, leading to a shootout. The suspect escaped through dark alleys, but the man guiding the police was struck by his accomplice’s bullets and did not survive. The Makarov pistol was later recovered on the ground in an alleyway.
