MARITIME TRAFFICKING – A boat suspected of clandestine transport intercepted in Nosy Be Hell-Ville with 18 passengers on board

A successful operation for the Malagasy National Navy. In a statement released this Wednesday, the navy announced the interception of a boat suspected of clandestinely transporting people off the coast of Ankazoberavina, in Nosy Be. Eighteen people were on board. The operation was reportedly carried out by soldiers from the Nosy Be naval detachment.

According to the statement, the naval detachment was alerted to the presence of a suspicious boat navigating in the surrounding waters. The naval forces then engaged in a tracking operation to follow the vessel, which was finally caught and boarded off the coast of Ankazoberavina. “Initial findings on site confirm the initial suspicions. The boat was transporting passengers clandestinely,” the statement added.

Following the operation, the 18 people on board were taken into custody by the military and brought back to Nosy Be Hell-Ville, before being handed over to the national police. They are expected to be questioned as part of an investigation opened to establish the exact circumstances of this trafficking, their destination, and to identify those responsible.
