Private schools are seeking clarification on new school curricula and academic streams to effectively organize teaching and guide student orientation. On Friday, teachers from private institutions visited the Cisco (School District) office in Analakely to submit a letter outlining their concerns regarding the changes in the curriculum. With classes already underway, they are eager to understand the implementation procedures for the measures announced by educational authorities.
The inquiries focus on the new versus old academic streams and the status of intermediate classes across the ten national directorates. Following the announcement of new streams, the potential retention of certain aspects of the old system has caused confusion. School administrators are looking for clear guidance on how to proceed with their teaching programs.
Teachers are requesting official reference documents to prepare their lessons and adapt their pedagogical organization. This uncertainty also affects parents, some of whom have already made decisions regarding their children’s orientation based on previous announcements. One parent noted that after the initial change in streams, they enrolled their child in the French Baccalaureate, only to find the ‘D’ stream reinstated, leaving them unable to reverse their decision.
The issue of educational programs (PE) is also a major concern. Teachers report that various versions are circulating on social media, with some even being sold, and they are calling for the identification of official, standardized versions. Father Alexis Rajaonarivo, Director of the Diocesan Directorate of Catholic Education (DIDEC), emphasized that these changes require adequate preparation time. He argued that a three-to-four-day training session is insufficient to cover new requirements and that the increase in subjects necessitates a gradual adaptation of teaching methods.
“No one is saying these changes are bad. They just need to be introduced gradually rather than abruptly,” he stated, calling for a phased implementation supported by clear guidelines for each cycle. Access to official information and training remains a significant challenge for schools outside the capital, and the distribution of reference documents is essential for consistent application across all regions.
