As part of strengthening cooperation between the Boeny region and France, the new Consul General of France, Annabelle Averty, visited Mahajanga last week. This was her very first trip to the ‘City of Flowers’ since taking up her diplomatic post a year ago.
During her visit to the city last Friday, she met with the head of the Boeny region, Nasolo Adakalo, at his office in the administrative block in Ampisikina. The Honorary Consul of France in Mahajanga, Rafik Kalfane, also participated in the meeting.
Annabelle Averty arrived in Madagascar at the beginning of September, succeeding former Consul General Jean-Louis Roth. ‘Numerous collaborations exist between France and Madagascar, particularly between the department of Reunion and the Boeny region. Other collaborations are also underway. The presence of many French nationals residing in Madagascar, especially in Mahajanga, is a testament to this. Your visit strengthens the ties between French and Malagasy citizens. Trade exchanges between the two countries are also significant,’ emphasized the head of the Boeny region.
The discussions also focused on the situation of French nationals residing in the City of Flowers, particularly regarding security and residency issues. The strengthening of decentralized cooperation between the two parties was also discussed.
On this occasion, the French Consul General was briefed on the roadmap for the Boeny region for the next ten months, which is primarily focused on regional development.
