BILLIARDS – IBF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – Twenty-four players to compete in Cape Town

A massive delegation. The Malagasy Billiards Union (UBM) is fielding twenty-four players for the International Billiard Federation (IBF) World Championships, taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, from October 24 to November 1. The representatives of the Great Island, who are the top performers in each category following the twelve-stage national championship, will cover the various costs associated with this international trip. “The State has assisted us with on-site accommodation,” noted Tsinjohasina Rabeharisoa, president of the UBM.

Madagascar will present eight players in the Men’s category, eight in the women’s, seven in the seniors, and four in the under-23s. The Malagasy flag-bearers will compete in individual, doubles, and team events. The initial list of players was twenty-seven, but it has been reduced to twenty-four. Two coaches and one official will accompany the players to South African soil. This will be Madagascar’s third participation in such a global competition.

The country’s top player, Daniela Andriamihaja, previously reached the quarter-finals during the 2022 edition in Albi, France. The men’s team narrowly missed the play-offs or semi-finals during the edition in Malta two years ago. The first wave of the delegation, consisting of twenty-four people, flew to the Rainbow Nation early this morning. The second wave is scheduled to depart this Monday, barring any changes to flight plans.
