Jean-Marc Razakazafy has canceled his assumption of office as the interim executive director of the National Tourism Office of Madagascar (ONTM). This information was confirmed by a source within the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, a source at the ONTM indicated that the organization had not yet received a formal letter regarding this decision. As of yesterday evening, the official announcement of Jean-Marc Razakazafy’s appointment, dated Monday, October 26, remained pinned on the organization’s Facebook page.
The appointment of Jean-Marc Razakazafy had been subject to protests from the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts. The ministry’s chief of staff, secretary-general, and the director-general of tourism held a press conference late Tuesday afternoon to insist on the irregularity of his election. The conditions required for the validation of the vote were reportedly not met; out of the sixteen members of the board of directors, only seven voted, while the required quorum is eleven members.
The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts had expressed explicit reservations about his candidacy, advocating for a responsible approach in line with the requirements of good governance and the principles of the Refoundation policy. Furthermore, Noro Ralaivelo, the chief of staff of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, had pointed out that he was too closely associated with the former regime.
