Local development is at the heart of government priorities in the Manandriana district. During the lemon festival celebrated in Ambovombe-Centre (Amoron’i Mania region), the Head of State came to show his support for local producers. The goal is to breathe new life into this strategic sector, particularly through the One District One Factory (ODOF) program.
With its twelve communes, the Manandriana district is a major citrus production hub, benefiting from four lemon harvests per year. However, due to a lack of market outlets and distribution difficulties, a significant portion of the harvest rots on-site. To address this, the state is committed to facilitating farmers’ access to wider markets and developing local industrial processing.
Launched in October 2021, the ODOF project aims to bring industry closer to production hubs to increase local added value, structure value chains, and create jobs. In Manandriana, the industrial unit dedicated to lemons is facing operational constraints, particularly regarding the preservation processes of processed products. To make the factory fully functional, the Head of State announced the imminent deployment of technicians to conduct a comprehensive assessment.
Furthermore, 100 million ariary has been allocated for the improvement of roads connecting the twelve communes. The President also expressed firmness regarding the delays in the rehabilitation of the 18-kilometer road serving the district, warning that the state will not make payments if the contractor fails to meet deadlines and standards. Alongside these economic announcements, the visit included the distribution of social aid and the inauguration of a drinking water supply network with a capacity of 80 m³ per day, serving nearly 12,000 residents.
