CONCERT – Tanora Masina Itaosy rises to the challenge

An anniversary celebration worthy of three and a half decades of praise. Tanora Masina Itaosy reached a new milestone in its journey by gathering nearly twenty thousand spectators at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium yesterday for its anniversary concert themed ‘Izy no torinay’. This was a first for the group, which had initially expected to welcome seventeen thousand people.

‘We are very happy, especially since the weather was favorable and the public showed up. It is a first for us,’ confided Lovaniaina Rakotondranaivo, the group’s choir director and composer.

During the two parts of the show, several songs were performed, blending old tracks with iconic pieces from their repertoire, including ‘Mila Anao’, ‘Kalvary’, and ‘Fitsarana’. The audience also welcomed back two members who have been with the group for twenty years. Collaborations with other artists enriched the program, notably on ‘Araraoty’ with Noely, as well as performances featuring Mialy Rakotomamonjy, Jàjà, and members of other evangelical groups such as Antsan’ny Kristy, Ny Mpitory, Rojo Ny Avo, and Ny Hasim-piderana.

Behind this mobilization, the group dedicated a month to concert preparation. Time management, rehearsals, and coordination were significant challenges for this group, whose members also hold other professional jobs. ‘We are not professional performers, as everyone has their own work and responsibilities. Our activity is above all a ministry of testimony. Nevertheless, it requires rigorous organization,’ explains Lovaniaina Rakotondranaivo.

To ensure the quality of the show, the group relied on regular rehearsals and technical resources, including lighting effects, screens, and sound equipment. The stage featured 36 and 24 square meter screens. In total, 115 people took the stage, including twelve dancers.

Founded in 1991 within the Malagasy Lutheran Church of Ambohimasina Itaosy, Tanora Masina Itaosy has built its path around preaching the Gospel through song. Officially inaugurated on December 8 of the same year, the group now has 140 members, about half of whom are young people. Over the years, the group has composed more than 120 songs and produced ten albums. An eleventh opus is in preparation to mark its 35th anniversary.
