Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, the Head of State, clarified on Tuesday that he did not set a specific electoral deadline for July 2027 during his meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Durban. This statement contrasts with a post on the official Facebook page of the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic.
The President explained that while the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is expected to be ready to organize elections starting from July 2027, no fixed date has been set for the polls. He emphasized that his current political consultations are intended to support the CENI in accelerating the electoral governance process.
The official communication previously published on the Presidency’s Facebook page had explicitly stated that the first election would be held in July 2027, in accordance with the Refoundation program. However, the Head of State now maintains that while 2027 is the target year, the exact timeline remains subject to the progress of the ongoing consultations and the CENI’s operational schedule.
The “Programme of the Refoundation of the Republic,” submitted to SADC in February, suggests a potential referendum or constitutional election between May and July 2027, though it notes that these dates are subject to revision based on national developments.
