5×5 Basketball U18: The Ankoay are one step away from qualification

The Ankoay boys’ team confirmed their dominance over Namibia, moving just one victory away from qualifying for the 2026 U18 Afrobasket. After crushing Namibia in the first leg (115-31), the Malagasy selection repeated their performance last night in Harare, Zimbabwe, with a 111-33 victory. This dominant display keeps the young Malagasy players on a flawless path toward their goal: reaching the final phase of the U18 Afrobasket in Abidjan this August.

The skill gap was evident on the court. After a strong first quarter, Namibia collapsed in the second, scoring only two points against Madagascar’s 37. By halftime, the outcome was already clear. The team’s collective superiority was highlighted by a 68.42% success rate on two-point shots. Individually, Harinosy A’Ranty Rasetriarivony stood out with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Tsiory Ulrick Rakotozafy also scored 21 points.

The qualification campaign is not over yet. The Ankoay must now face the host nation, Zimbabwe, on July 30th. Having already defeated them 88-44 on July 27th, the Malagasy team is in a strong position. Solofohery Angelot Razafiarivony, Technical Director of the FMBB, stated that the chance to go to Abidjan is real, and it is up to the team to seize it. A victory on July 30th would secure their ticket to the continental tournament.
