TANJOMBATO – Two suspects arrested following the death of two brothers

Two suspects were arrested in Toamasina after the bodies of two brothers were discovered in the Ikopa River, in Tanjombato. According to the police, a dispute fueled by jealousy is believed to be the cause of the tragedy.

The two men suspected of being involved in the deaths of the two young men were arrested last Saturday in Toamasina at their mother’s home by the Police Criminal Investigation Department, Third Section (BC3). They had fled after the incident. According to a police source, the two victims were killed following a dispute sparked by excessive jealousy.

As a reminder, Tahiry and Tiavina had left their home on September 11 and went out with a woman that evening. The two men currently under arrest are the partner and the brother of that woman, respectively. Consumed by jealousy, one of the suspects could not tolerate the situation, and the dispute escalated into murder.

The family of the two young men had reported them missing on September 13, 2026. The police then launched a search. The lifeless bodies of Tiavina and Tahiry were found in the Ikopa River in Tanjombato, one on September 15 and the other on September 16.

During the investigation, the BC3 obtained surveillance camera footage showing the two suspects in the company of the victims. Questioned in Toamasina, the two suspects reportedly confessed to the charges against them, according to the police. They were placed in police custody at the BC premises in Anosy yesterday morning and presented to the public prosecutor yesterday afternoon, pending further judicial proceedings.
