JEAN DE DIEU RANDRIANARIVELO – “Madagascar is a model in Africa”

Present at the eighth edition of the Alley Hoop 3×3 basketball tournament in Mahamasina last weekend, national coach Jean de Dieu Randrianarivelo, known as Coach Deda, answered our questions about the discipline.

Regarding his observations, Coach Deda noted that the talent and future generation are present in Madagascar. He highlighted several young players with promising physical profiles, standing between 1.90m and 2m, who deserve special follow-up and support to reach the elite level.

When asked about areas for improvement, he emphasized physical conditioning. He stated that talent alone is not enough to compete with the best African or global nations. He stressed that Madagascar is a model in Africa and must maintain its standing.

Regarding competitiveness, he noted that Madagascar is the most successful country on the continent in 3×3 basketball with three men’s titles. However, he warned against complacency, calling for serious preparation and state support, as the federation cannot bear the costs alone.

Looking ahead to the continental competitions in December, he recommended starting preparations immediately, suggesting a two-month program: four weeks for physical training followed by four weeks for technical and tactical work to defend the titles held by both the men’s and women’s teams.
