TABLE TENNIS – AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – Men’s team falls at the gates of the final

The Malagasy table tennis players were defeated by the Algerians in the semi-finals of the African Team Championships yesterday in Tangier, Morocco. They finish the competition with a bronze medal.

The adventure ended at the gates of the final for the Malagasy men’s team. Composed exclusively of expatriate players, they lost 1-3 to Algeria yesterday afternoon at the Tangier Arena in Morocco, securing a bronze medal for Madagascar.

The Malagasy started the match well. Antoine Razafinarivo won the first match against Maheidine Bella, dominating in three sets (11-9, 11-6, 11-6). This victory remained the only one for the Malagasy side, which then conceded three consecutive defeats.

Fabio Rakotoarimanana, who participated in the Paris Olympic Games, lost 0-3 to Stéphane Ouaiche (9-11, 4-11, 7-11). Timiary Rabemanantsoa then succumbed to Milhane Jellouli, also in three sets (1-11, 3-11, 6-11). In the fourth match, Antoine Razafinarivo fell 1-3 (3-11, 2-11, 11-8, 7-11).

In the quarter-finals on Monday evening, Madagascar had eliminated Angola 3-0. Antoine Razafinarivo paved the way by beating Elizandro André (3-0), followed by Fabio Rakotoarimanana’s success against Domingos Manuel (3-0). Timiary Rabemanantsoa secured the qualification by defeating Delcio Cassule (3-1).

The women’s team was narrowly eliminated by Morocco (2-3) in the quarter-finals on Monday evening. Despite strong performances from Hanitra Karen Raharimanana, Vony Ange Randriantsoa, and Edena Prevot, the team ultimately fell to the Moroccan side in a hard-fought series.

The African Championships continue until Sunday, with doubles and singles events starting this Wednesday.
