The first rally outside the capital, the 19th edition of the Boeny Rally, organized by Team Go Janga—well-known for the unmissable ‘Rallye Vacances’—will take place from August 13 to 15 in Mahajanga. This event serves as the third round of the Madagascar Rally Championship.
“This Boeny Rally will stand out with two special stages in the city and one at night. The urban stages will take place in front of the City Hall and will be extended to 800 meters compared to 700 meters last year, running from the City Hall to Saint-Gabriel. This time, there will be no figure-eight, but two donuts will be installed,” explains Mickael Rabesaotra, known as KMickaz, from the organizing club.
“The first urban stage will open the rally. The second, which will conclude the three days of racing, will no longer count toward the rally standings. It will be more of a showcase for the spectacle, and even in case of retirement, the crew will still be classified,” he specified. The night special stage, Mantsabory-Ampitolova Puit (7.30 km), is scheduled for the end of the first stage on Thursday, with the first car expected to start around 5:52 PM.
This will be a coefficient 1.5 rally on a surface that is 99% dirt and 1% asphalt for the special stages. Fourteen special stages totaling 123 km, including nine different ones, are on the program for the three days of racing. The total distance, including liaisons, amounts to 202 km. The organizing club will offer the usual Boeny specials, including Vitogaz-Mantsabory, Ampitolova-Antsanitia, Must Grande (14 km), Petite Boucle (11 km), and Ampitolova-Puit-Mantsabora.
“We are collaborating with the Boeny region, the urban commune of Mahajanga, and Antsanitia Resorts to rehabilitate several parts of the special stages, particularly near Antsanitia. Last year, we only used graders, but this time, our partners are deploying heavy machinery,” KMickaz added to reassure competitors. “The tracks are very varied, mostly sandy, but there are also hard-packed and dusty surfaces. There are very technical sections, sometimes very narrow, and also ‘highways’ like in Antsanitia, where we will even have to install chicanes or donuts to limit speed,” he emphasized. A transponder will be installed by the technical delegate on each car to record its time at the finish line.
