MÉRIES ARTHUR RANDRIANAMBININTSOA – ‘Road safety requires discipline, vigilance, and responsibility’

Méries Arthur Randrianambinintsoa, a driving instructor in Nanisana, explains the essential role of driving schools in training drivers and preventing traffic accidents. He answers our questions.

What measures can prevent traffic accidents?

Accident prevention primarily involves respecting the Highway Code and road signs. Drivers must adapt their speed to traffic conditions, maintain safety distances, and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol. They must also observe sufficient rest periods to avoid fatigue, which can diminish vigilance. Furthermore, retraining and updating knowledge contribute to improving driving behavior and enhancing safety for all road users.

What are the different categories of driver’s licenses in Madagascar?

In Madagascar, there are several categories of driver’s licenses, depending on the type of vehicle. The A’ license is for light motorcycles, while the A license is for large motorcycles. The B license authorizes driving private cars, the C license for trucks, and the D license for buses and public transport vehicles. The E license concerns vehicles with trailers, while the F license is reserved for specially adapted vehicles.

What is your view on the state of our roads?

The state of the roads is a significant factor in traffic accidents. Potholes, degradation, and lack of maintenance can put drivers in difficulty and increase risks. It is therefore up to the State and the responsible ministry to ensure the maintenance and rehabilitation of road infrastructure. Particular attention should be paid to the RN2 to ensure better traffic conditions and strengthen user safety.

What message would you give to road users to prevent accidents?

To all road users, you must show caution, responsibility, and respect for others. Road safety is everyone’s business, whether you are a motorist, motorcyclist, cyclist, or pedestrian. It is essential to respect the Highway Code, road signs, speed limits, and safety distances. Drivers must also refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol, avoid using their phones while driving, and check the condition of their vehicle before each trip. Responsible behavior can save lives.
