Traveling from Amoronakona offers passengers a completely different experience compared to the old Fasan’ny Karàna station. Beyond the modern infrastructure, the organization of transport has also been significantly upgraded.
Yesterday, passengers arrived at the Amoronakona bus terminal via shuttle services. “While shopping in Behoririka this morning, I was told that a vehicle connects Analakely directly to Amoronakona. The vehicle was easy to spot with a sign on the windshield. I got on, and here I am, without having to pay for a taxi. I only paid 2,000 ariary for this trip,” says Marianne, a merchant from Fianarantsoa.
However, many are still unaware of these shuttles. Each vehicle, departing after an hour of waiting, carried only two to four passengers. “We took three buses from Andranomena to get here because we didn’t see these shuttles,” says Léon, a passenger heading to Manakara.
The Ministry of Transport and Meteorology has mobilized new transport options to facilitate passenger travel from the city center and suburbs to the new station. Travelers can choose between shuttles, Foton buses, or the urban train to reach the Amoronakona station, in addition to regular transport methods. “This train is practical because we often bring packages to the station, and there are no traffic jams. But the number of rotations should be increased,” suggests Iloaina, a merchant from Behoririka who reached Amoronakona by train.
At the ticket counter, each passenger must provide their full identity, including name, first names, national ID number, address, phone number, and an emergency contact. This information is recorded on an interconnected tablet. “We are complying with the specifications,” explains Andry Michel Razafindraibe, a board member of G-2TP, the manager of the Amoronakona bus terminal.
“The difference is that we used to write them in a notebook at the Fasan’ny Karàna station. But with the prevailing laxity, some drivers did not fill in passenger information,” reports Jean Ferdinand Rakotondramanana, fleet manager. This data is essential for ensuring passenger traceability and providing assistance in case of an accident.
After registration, the passenger pays transport fees directly at the station’s cash desk, rather than to the cooperative. This standardizes fares for each destination. Once the procedure is complete and the vehicle is full, the manifest is issued, and the vehicle can depart. However, this new system is not yet fully optimized: some ticket agents are still struggling with the tablets and procedures, causing delays yesterday. Vehicles filled by 6:00 AM could not leave until around 9:30 AM. The management assures that these disruptions will be fully resolved within ten days at most.
