A total of 260 suspected cases of food poisoning have been reported among employees of Konecta Madagascar, with no deaths recorded. As of Friday, October 9 at 8:00 PM, 193 people had been discharged from the hospital, while 67 remained under medical care.
According to Dr. Christian Rakotonindriana of the HJRA hospital in Ampefiloha, initial suspicions point to the fish and sauce served in the company canteen. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the contamination. In response, Konecta has suspended the catering service provider shared by two of its sites and closed its canteens.
The company has pledged to cover all medical and transportation costs for the affected employees. Meanwhile, health professionals are urging the public to avoid self-medication and to seek professional medical advice immediately if symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain occur, warning that improper treatment can lead to severe dehydration.
