DIPLOMACY – Former Minister Mamy Ratovomalala appointed as Madagascar’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom

A new head of the Malagasy diplomatic mission has been appointed during the Council of Ministers. The appointment concerns the position of Ambassador of Madagascar to the United Kingdom, filled by Mamy Ratovomalala. He is no stranger to Malagasy public life, having served as Minister of Industrialization and Crafts in the early 2000s under the government of Tantely Andrianarivo. He also held the position of Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons during the Transition period led by Andry Rajoelina, under the government of Camille Vital.

Mamy Ratovomalala’s appointment to London is part of a broader movement to renew the Malagasy diplomatic corps initiated by the Executive in recent months, with several ambassadorial posts recently filled in various capitals. The position of head of the Malagasy mission in London had been vacant since the removal of Andriniaina Bretino Raharinomena. Appointed in August 2018 following the formal reopening of the embassy in London, his mandate was cut short after a few months following a general recall of heads of diplomatic missions due to the change in political regime in early 2019.
