International judo takes center stage this weekend in Switzerland for the Lausanne Grand Slam. Madagascar will be represented on the tatami by two judokas: Paris Olympian Laura Rasoanaivo and Alice Randrianjohany. Both fighters will attempt to defend the national colors against the world’s elite.
Competing in the under 70 kg category, Laura Rasoanaivo will face a tough challenge in a highly competitive field of 36 fighters. Thanks to her status, the Malagasy judoka has received a bye for the first round. In her opening match, she will face the winner of the duel between Britain’s Kelly Petersen Pollard and Sweden’s Ingrid Nilsson.
Meanwhile, Alice Randrianjohany will compete in the under 78 kg category, which features 25 fighters. The draw was not particularly kind to the Malagasy athlete, who will begin the competition against the Dutch judoka Yael van Heemst.
